Zoll defibrillators are small and light weight, making them very attractive to responders who don’t want to carry a twenty pound weight up three flights of stairs on top of their other equipment. Zoll’s smallest model is one-third the size of other devices and weighs 5 kg..

Zoll is a leading manufacturer of automated external defibrillators. They have a state of the art management system, assessment process with advanced monitoring,a common operating system, and minimize training necessity.

These portable defibrillators are easy to use for non medical personnel. A push of the button and instant verbal instructions in CPR and Defibrillation. If that is not enough, diagrams are printed with step 1,2 etc for easy viewing.

If a shock is not needed in the assessment of the victim , the defibrillator will not let the responder give it. The Zoll AED Plus is the defibrillator with the CPR and Defibrillation instructions, the others just give the defibrillation process.

The company prides itself on quality,in technology and simplicity for public use.

Zoll Alert

I’m sure everyone who reads this blog is aware that we are concerned with defibrillators. Specifically, Philips,Defibtech, and Zoll. When I see recalls I get anxious but recalls are important and I respect the companies that admit a problem and try to correct it. Many defibrillator companies have had problems with their AEDs and have had recalls. Zoll has issued an alert that some of their Zoll AED Plus defibrillators have defective batteries and software.

On Feb. 12,2009, Zoll announced that a new software download was available free of charge  which would detect a  potential defective battery. This defect caused 2 deaths due to a shock which was not delivered to a patient. The company did a thorough investigation of the problem.

The solution is the free download at www.zollaedplusbatteryhelp.com. Any one not sure about their aed please go to that website for further information. Zoll cares!!!

The Zoll AED Plus defibrillator offers a special feature. It will not only delivers a shock to the victim when needed it will also give the user voice prompts going through all the steps of CPR and reinforce resuscitation proceedure. You will also receive feedback to help you perform more efficiently.

The audio and visual prompts provide confidence to the responder, clarity in performance, and certainty in your actions. The Zoll AED Plus defibrillator even has a metronome to aid in rhythm and rate of compressions. The display will alert you to the correct depth of compressions.

Most  AEDs have 2 electrodes attached to pads which are placed separately on the victim and are attached to the defibrillator. Zoll AED has a special onepiece pad and electrode which fits over the apropriate areas making it simpler to attach to the defibrillator and the victim.

The defibrillator also has special pads for children under 8 years. With these child/infant pads the defibrillator will adjust itself to give a shock apropriate to the child. Simplicity and technology at its best.

Zoll Medical Corp donated a defibrillator to the Smith Junior High School in Mesa, Arizona. The staff and students were given training in CPR and on the Automated External Defibrillator in order to train family members in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Three other schools also receiving defibrillators are participating in the Department of Health Services,”Your Hands-Their Heart” program. The goal is proper performance of the proceedures and extending safety knowledge to others. The ripple effect should achieve basic lifesaving techniques in a large numer of potential first responders.

The Zoll Corporation is to be commended on its generosity and civic integrity.

Bad News for Medical Device Companies

Medical  companies in Massachusetts are looking forward to paying  a 2.3% increase in taxes on defibrillators and other medical devices due to the new health care reform law.  More people will receive health insurance and it will increase the medical proceedures which involve medical devices.

Zoll does not feel that more people on the on insurance lists will increase their business.Zoll Medical says their taxes will substantially increase due to this reforn. The qualityof manufacturing Zoll defibrillators might have to be re-examined if the tax cannot be passed on to customers. The tax will be in effect in 3 years.

Knowing the high quality of the Zoll products andtheir high standing in the medical device field I believe they will do every thing in their power to keep quality in their  products .

Home Defibrillators VS. Professional Hospital Ones

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Home defibrillators,at work defibrillators and hospital defibrillators have basically the same technology. The home defibrillators don’t have fancy monitors showing heart rhythms and producing ECG tracings that the hospital ones do. Doctors at a cardiac arrest are able to interpret the readings and give medication to counteract  the arrhythmias and aid in the defibrillation process.

Home defibrillators are used to shock the arrhythmias into normal heart rhythm. It is not necessary for lay responders to figure out cause and effect. No heartbeat? Defibrillate! However you don’t even have to decide that on your own. The home defibrillator will do that for you. If a shock is needed the defibrillator will tell you!

The home defibrillator units are also smaller, portable, and more intelligent since they assess the patient for you. The in-hospital defibrillators are portable but built larger and heavier. They are manually programmed and do not give a verbal assessment. The doctor decides on the defibrillation.

Hospital defibrillators can spit out ECG tracings giving them a record of the event. The energy of the shock can also be increased if the first shock is thought to be too low. Home defibrillators are preset for you. That’s high tech for you!

What Does Security Cost ?

What does security cost? Do you feel safe knowing your genetic background holds heart problems? Your cholesterol is high, you’re overweight ,have high blood pressure,a smoker,a couch potato, diabetic,or prone to thrombophlebitis(inflammation of veins with clot formation).

You could arrest anywhere, anytime. What can you do? Your life is in your hands. Get that cholesterol, sugar, and blood pressure under control. Exercise a little. Elevate those legs, get help from ypur physician before you start to fall apart. Your family needs you. Prevention is what you owe yourself and them.

A defibrillator costs $2-3,000. It saves lives. It is more important than a car or a house. If you need one and can’t get one you might not need one anymore. Was it worth scimping on your life? Think about it.

Check out Philips Heartstart,Defibtech Lifeline,or ZollPro or Plus defibrillators for price, and suitability for you and your family. You will really feel secure that you are doing everything in your power to protect yourself. Its a wonderful relief to get rid of worry.

Hail to The Conquering Heroes!

Today I want to pay homage to those special rescuers of sudden cardiac arrest(SCA) victims. You came upon frightening situations, pushed past your fear, and aided a stranger, friend or family member with life saving proceedures of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and/or cardiac defibrillation. Even if your attempt failed it was not your fault. You did what another could not. YOU TRIED! God bless you for that.

Not everyone can be a hero. Some of us become frozen when faced with such a scary situation and regret and guilt will always be with us for what might have been a different conclusion. Were we cowards? Maybe and maybe not. Maybe it was meant to be. Only God knows and only He should judge us.

This is for those who stepped up in time of need. The unsung heroes who tried to make a difference to our fellow man, woman, or child. God Bless you. Your treasure is in heaven and it will be overwhelming.

The Zoll AED Pro Simulator is an accessory for the Zoll AED Pro or Plus Defibrillator. It is used to test or train a person in how to use the defibrillator. It can be plugged in to either the Pro or Plus model.

The Zoll AED  Simulator/tester gives an ECG rhythm simulation,CPR simulation, and a Rhythm conversion after shock.

Zoll also offers a Zoll AED Plus Training unit which lets students  practice real device operation using AHA training scenarios.Identical graphical interface is used with audio and visual prompts which mimic the AED Plus in look and operation. Screen messages and audio voice prompts guide the user from all aspects of the sudden cardiac arrest. That includes the arrival on the scene, calling for help, administering CPR, and shock delivery. A hand held remote allows the instructor to choose from 8 preprogrammed AHA scenarios and a manual scenario function, plus an “Attach Pads”, “Low Battery”,and a “Call for Service” simulations. The Training unit is powered by 6 “C” cell batteries. These accessories would make you more comfortable in using a defibrillator in a real situation.
