Do I Need the same defibrillator used by the EMS in my town?

The EMS in a town or city like to have the townspeople use the same defibrillators. Why? Because they can connect your defibrillator leads to theirs without replacing the pads on the victim. This saves them time and money. Some rescuers will replace pads anyway. Its as if they don’t think we are capable of making a correct placement with the pads. If I have offended any professional rescuers I apologize, however, I had a rescuer laugh in my prescence to a colleague about the fact that pads are frequently replaced by them. You should know that many companies have connectors to adapt different defibrillators’ accessories to another. Therefore it is not necessary to buy a specific brand simply because your town has that kind.

Buy the best one for you! Check to see if your favorite has a connector for the town’s choice of defibrillator. Don’t be misled into getting a particular brand “because the fire department uses that one”. It might not have been chosen for quality but for a cheaper price or “perks.”

We sell Zoll, Philips, and Defibtech which we consider high quality and reliable for any occasion.I have a hard time choosing between them for my preference because they  offer such unique differences. Zoll has pictures and oral instructions. Philips can convert the FRx from adult to pediatric use by the infant/child key. This allows you to use the adult pads as a child pad. Defibtech offers simplicity, ruggedness, and reliability. All defibrillators offer audio instruction.

Don’t forget to do your homework. Check all the brands to see your options and work the best deal. Remember the most expensive is not always the best and neither is the cheapest.  I know we all want a bargain but if you need to replace batteries, pads and other accessories then it is a bad bargain. Be smart. Go with a reputable company and check your products track record.

Zoll Features

Zoll defibrillators are small and light weight, making them very attractive to responders who don’t want to carry a twenty pound weight up three flights of stairs on top of their other equipment. Zoll’s smallest model is one-third the size of other devices and weighs 5 kg..

Zoll is a leading manufacturer of automated external defibrillators. They have a state of the art management system, assessment process with advanced monitoring,a common operating system, and minimize training necessity.

These portable defibrillators are easy to use for non medical personnel. A push of the button and instant verbal instructions in CPR and Defibrillation. If that is not enough, diagrams are printed with step 1,2 etc for easy viewing.

If a shock is not needed in the assessment of the victim , the defibrillator will not let the responder give it. The Zoll AED Plus is the defibrillator with the CPR and Defibrillation instructions, the others just give the defibrillation process.

The company prides itself on quality,in technology and simplicity for public use.

Zoll Alert

I’m sure everyone who reads this blog is aware that we are concerned with defibrillators. Specifically, Philips,Defibtech, and Zoll. When I see recalls I get anxious but recalls are important and I respect the companies that admit a problem and try to correct it. Many defibrillator companies have had problems with their AEDs and have had recalls. Zoll has issued an alert that some of their Zoll AED Plus defibrillators have defective batteries and software.

On Feb. 12,2009, Zoll announced that a new software download was available free of charge  which would detect a  potential defective battery. This defect caused 2 deaths due to a shock which was not delivered to a patient. The company did a thorough investigation of the problem.

The solution is the free download at www.zollaedplusbatteryhelp.com. Any one not sure about their aed please go to that website for further information. Zoll cares!!!

Bad News for Medical Device Companies

Medical  companies in Massachusetts are looking forward to paying  a 2.3% increase in taxes on defibrillators and other medical devices due to the new health care reform law.  More people will receive health insurance and it will increase the medical proceedures which involve medical devices.

Zoll does not feel that more people on the on insurance lists will increase their business.Zoll Medical says their taxes will substantially increase due to this reforn. The qualityof manufacturing Zoll defibrillators might have to be re-examined if the tax cannot be passed on to customers. The tax will be in effect in 3 years.

Knowing the high quality of the Zoll products andtheir high standing in the medical device field I believe they will do every thing in their power to keep quality in their  products .

What does security cost? Do you feel safe knowing your genetic background holds heart problems? Your cholesterol is high, you’re overweight ,have high blood pressure,a smoker,a couch potato, diabetic,or prone to thrombophlebitis(inflammation of veins with clot formation).

You could arrest anywhere, anytime. What can you do? Your life is in your hands. Get that cholesterol, sugar, and blood pressure under control. Exercise a little. Elevate those legs, get help from ypur physician before you start to fall apart. Your family needs you. Prevention is what you owe yourself and them.

A defibrillator costs $2-3,000. It saves lives. It is more important than a car or a house. If you need one and can’t get one you might not need one anymore. Was it worth scimping on your life? Think about it.

Check out Philips Heartstart,Defibtech Lifeline,or ZollPro or Plus defibrillators for price, and suitability for you and your family. You will really feel secure that you are doing everything in your power to protect yourself. Its a wonderful relief to get rid of worry.

dChristmas treeChristmas 2009 is passed and Our New Year of 2010 is just around the corner. Life is going by too quickly for some of us and its time to sit down and do some deep thinking.

Resolution time is coming!

Don’t make unattainable resolutions, make a few that will impact yourself. Do you want to be healthy? Live long? Play with your children? Make happy memories? Of course you do! Think of all the obese people riding on handicap riders in the stores. Some even carry oxygen tanks. Don’t let yourself go. You get one body put it in shape. Use those muscles to get more energy…work them…start slowly. Eat right, cut down on those sweets, don’t deny yourself a treat but don’t eat the whole bag of candy either. Too many carbs? Modify your diet..you can do it!

Check your family medical history….Diabetes? Watch those sweets! Heart trouble? Need a home defibrillator? Philips defibrillator,Zoll defibrillator,or Defibtech defibrillator are three of the best!

Happy New Year!!!!
